The quintessentially spotlighted culture of Los Angeles is the backdrop for this year’s conference. Mining processes of exaggeration, display and mystification in meaning-making and critique, this conference brings together cross-disciplinary research from across the country and beyond. The rich array of papers and 'performance as research' presentations touch on subjects as diverse as Bolivian women wrestlers, Lady Gaga's brush with African masking, Queer Armageddon, and Maori sporting in the UK.
